Describing what was inspected study notes

Clear, specific descriptions of systems, materials and methods.

Key points

• Describe the type, materials and energy sources (e.g. gas forced-air furnace, copper supply).
• State the inspection method: roof walked, viewed from the eaves, attic entered and so on.
• Qualify estimates: 'appears', 'approximately', 'based on the data plate'.
• Record conditions such as weather, occupancy and utilities on or off.
• Photos support the text but don't replace it.
• Use plain language the client understands.
