Analysis of Findings & Reporting · Task 16 of 19
Reporting defects study notes
Each defect statement says what, where, why it matters, and what to do.
Key points
- Format: condition, location, implication, recommendation.
- Avoid diagnosing hidden causes as fact; describe symptoms.
- Highlight safety items and prioritize them in the summary.
- Report what was observed even if the seller promises a repair.
- Don't estimate repair costs or predict failures.
- Use consistent location terms (left, right, front, rear as viewed from the street).
Exam tip
vague words like 'bad' or 'okay' are always the wrong choice.
